It’s sad to see us now down to day 11 of the giveaway, and we hope that we have not overwhelmed you all with these interviews! Here we introduce and speak with HIJ clothing we disscussed; inspiration from johnny cupcakes, dallas’ strong clothing companies community, kill hubris and more!

Who are HIJ clothing? & How do you fit into the wide and expansive world of online t-shirts?

HIJ clothing is an independent clothing company and I am the sole owner and creator. HIJ is my initials and my full name is Hugo Ivan Juarez. It started out as a hobby at first being heavily inspired by Johnny Cupcakes and also inspired by Dallas Texas’s own Fur Face Boy. If it wasn’t for those two brands then who knows if I would of even started HIJ. I feel like I fit in to this community because I keep everything limited edition and I strive to make all my products as special as they can be. I plan on never selling out because this brand is more than just t shirts. This brand defines me and my life which in hand has become super personal to me.

What is the best thing about being a t-shirt company? Do you have positive experiences about the t-shirt community?

I’ve recently realized this is all I want to do with my life. Art is my true passion and HIJ is just a tool for my art. I do it for the love of t shirts and art. For me it has never been about the money. Being based out of Dallas has been awesome because the community here is amazing! There are so many brands but everyone supports everyone and it is like a tight knit family. I am also fortunate enough to have had personal conversations and gotten advice from top independent clothing brands in Dallas.

What keeps you motivated to keep the brand going? Do you have a favourite design that has been the most successful for you?

My love for art keeps me motivated and I always have HIJ on my mind. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t come up with a sketch, ideas for products or just things I would like to do in the future. The design that has had the most succes is probably a Dallas design I did and I actually plan on doing something really special with that design so more people can own the t shirt but still keep it original and unique.

What are the plans for the brand in 2012?

For 2012 I plan on releasing 2 series for sure. Maybe 3. I will be sponsoring a mix tape too so I am excited for that! I also plan on doing a big event in San Marcos, TX were I attend Texas State University to shine light on some up and coming brands, artists and musicians that are trying to make it into the game. There is a lot of talent all over the world but sometimes we don’t get to see it for many reasons. I just want to help everyone live there dream and go for there goals so yeah big plans for 2012.

I am a fan of Kill Hubris so winning a t shirt from them would be awesome. I dig the concept and I love what they stand for. The guys who run the brand are great people also!

What is your best memory of Xmas growing up?

My best memory of Christmas is every Christmas Eve getting together with about 40 to 50 family members all cramped in a house laughing, playing and partying. When we were younger me and all my cousins would play this game to see who could stay up all night! We have so many memories that will always be in our hearts. Merry Christmas!
