12 Days Xmas Interview: Never Ltd
Not only do we have Manz on with her shrimp on the barbie from Australia, but Never Ltd are flying the flag for those kiwis. (Now that the world cup is over what else have they got [side note: I'm talking about rugby union north america.]) Never Ltd have been a huge part of this giveaway already, you will have seen them adopting the #12DaysXmas hashtag for event!
We discuss; how to always shout louder when your at the bottom, we see the seven deadly sins, why the number 26 is coming soon and a huge list of who to follow on twitter!

Holding up for the kiwis, what are Never LTD all about? How do you fit into the big world of online t-shirts?
Never Ltd is all about the name. It came about from my personal call to action and the brand is about not putting limits on my designs, our brand or myself. It is a daily reminder to find opportunities, inspiration and confidence.
Obviously we are predominately typography based, but we are working on a wider range of styles, and who knows what will be next.
How do we fit in? I can’t put Never Ltd in a box, as I think we are building our place, but where? Being in New Zealand it does tend to feel like we are on this little island at the bottom of the world, which just means we have to shout louder to be heard. Social media has proven to be invaluable.
New Zealand has the highest number of magazines per capita in the world and I think it would be safe to extend this statistic to the number of t-shirt and clothing brands too. Locally we are trying to carve out our own little space between some of the more established brands and globally we are trying to get ourselves out there so people know who we are when we open up to global orders - which won’t be too far away!
Does your customer base hold around NZ and your Australian neighbors?
So far our customer base has been NZ with a couple here and there from Australia. Interestingly we appear to be building a profile in the northern hemisphere thanks to the likes of Twitter and we will be opening up to take orders from the U.K. and America in the near future.
What designs are you most happy with in your store? Which have been the more popular?
It’s hard to pick an absolute favorite or even a top two but my personal favorites are Gluttony, Envy, Lust and Patience. A lot of people seem to be buying my shirts as gifts which makes it curiously interesting to see what designs they will buy, especially for their partners. The biggest sellers are Sloth, Gluttony, Envy, Patience and Humility.
Do you have any grand plans you can share a sneak peak with our readers?
My next series is a range of 26 different designs, which I’m planning to release one a week for 26 weeks. The idea behind this is that I currently only have about four of the designs completed to a point I’m happy with and if I wait for the lot to be complete it could be another two or three months before I release them. Also by doing this staggered release I hope to be able to use it to keep some momentum going in myself as well as in the public space and build some more interest week to week.
If you could win a shirt from a fellow brand in this giveaway, who would it be?
Again a hard one to make a distinct pick from, there are so many talented brands and individuals involved. DPCTED’s “I would cuddle you so hard” makes me chuckle.
Winky Boo, Carte Postale, La Muerta and Reflection Dynamiks all have one or two I would buy right now if I had the spare cash.
Who are the best people to follow on twitter?
There are so many… If I had to pick a few they would be @creativemorning @bufferapp @behance and @Askew.
@creativemorning was started by @swissmiss in New York and has now spread around the globe. The best thing is that each event is recorded and put up on their respective Vimeo channels for anyone to watch. If your near one of the locations and haven’t checked it out, do so now.
As well as being a great Twitter app I find @Bufferapp is a great resource to stay up to date on how best to remain effective and still have time to remain productive.
@Behance often tweet new projects that have been posted up which are great for that quick flash of inspiration or procrastination and also articles from the their other site www.the99percent.com , which has a focus on articles and tools to help you achieve your creative goals rather than being ‘inspiration’ led. As they say “its about making ideas happen”
@Askew is a local and greatly talented artist that started out on the street but has become much more than just a graffiti artist. “Although working primarily in aerosol paint, Askew is versed in graphic design, illustration, photography, publishing, music and moving image.” A very interesting guy to listen to when you get the chance and not only does he have a cool street name but when you search Askew in Google some interesting things happen…
And of course @teegazette keeps me up to date with what everyone else is doing in the t-shirt community.
How is Xmas different in NZ to the northern hemisphere? Hotter weather must mean Xmas by the beach?
Definitely hotter weather, a trip to the beach is never far away and a BBQ on the beach is much nicer than the roast turkey dinner inside! I live kinda central in the Auckland region, which means we are approximately a half hour drive from both east and west coast beaches. East coast is great for the calm golden sand and the west coast (my favorite) has a much moodier black sand, rough surf and a great vibe about it.
