12 Days Xmas Interview: TavernTees
Here we continue to talk tees, clothing, fashion and this time around the culture of drinking with your t-shirts at TavernTees. Here we got to discuss; how they started, tees of the zodiac, canadian ace, plans for 2012 and more!

What have things been like since you launched this year? What should people know about you if they haven’t seen you before?
TavernTees was created out of a request from our local pub Shotwell’s Bar to make some tees for them. We thought it would be a great idea to make these tees for anyone and everyone. We have done more local printing for bars around the SF area but our goal is to have more bars like Shotwells online. We can help them get the word to our fans about their bars, and we give everyone an opportunity to wear some local gear otherwise unavailable.
Recently you designed some tees of the zodiac what are they about?
Per a fan request we were making a slogan tee, and started a conversation about what kinda of drinkers there are. Just like the Zodiac affects daily life, it has to affect bar life as well right? We found the Guinness Zodiac calendar for reference, giving us even more inspiration and did some extensive “research”. Of course they may not apply to everyone, but we think we hit a pretty good mark!
Do you have a favourite t-shirt to go out wearing when drinking? What is your favourite design in your collection?
I wear my JAX New Orleans tshirt quite a bit, and also my Canadian Ace. Both beers have some great history behind them which affected both their logo and advertising campaigns. Canadian Ace in particular has a great story, being at one time invested in by Al Capone. I still have not found out how they came up with the name, but pretty sure it had to do with prohibition runs across the border. How can you not love that?
What are the plans for 2012 and beyond for the brand?
We are in talks with some SF bars about getting their wares available online and really look forward to pursuing more. Local dive bar tees can say a lot about the spirit and flavor of a city or neighborhood, and we want to let everyone be able to represent that.
If you win a t-shirt from a fellow brand in this giveaway who would it be?
Any tshirt we sell of course, or a variation thereof. We can make a variety of styles and apparel, so we’ll leave it up the winner to pick a design out. Canadian Ace boxers anyone??
Who are your picks for the best people to follow on twitter?
Well @Teegazette of course. With our original shop Crocktees we have seen them grow and help out a lot of smaller shops around the web. It’s been a generous gift to the tshirt community to get that kind of support. I really mean that. And along with @Teegazette there is of course @GritFX, @DesignJuices, and @Saucewear. Sure I also follow Conan O’brien and Will Ferrel, but they haven’t re-tweeted all of our designs….. yet.
What was the best present santa brought you at Xmas?
As a kid? Definitely the Air Jammer Road Rammer. Look it up, that thing was indestructible. Think I had it from 6-16.
